Heroes in Starcraft 2

No, there will not be any Heroes in Starcraft 2 multiplayer, but you will be able to play Raynor and Kerrigan in the Single Player campaign. The unit cap is 200 right now, same as in the first Starcraft 1.

Starcraft 2 unit changes from Starcraft 1

  • Photon Cannons are renamed Phase Cannons and can warp from place to place, entirely mobile within power range of their Pylons.
  • Archons can change into Twilight Archons, which can be made from any combination of either Dark or Light Templars.
  • The interceptor-holding Carrier, now renamed the Tempest, works similar to its to its predecessor, with some slight strategic variations. It is stronger against ground attacks, but more vulnerable against aircraft.
  • Protoss soul hunters get stronger every time they strike the killing blow to a unit.
  • Dragoons are gone.
  • Scouts are gone.

Starcraft 2 has been developed for four years

"Since the Frozen Throne shipped, so that would be 2003. Pre-production started then. When we were getting down to the end of development World of Warcraft, some of those resources were shifted to help make that happen, and then shifted back. There are a lot of members on the team, many of which worked on the original StarCraft and on WarCraft 3."

Single player improvements

Blizzard are working on some ambitious plans to make something different with the story mode campaign to add replayability. "It's not going to be one mission at a time."
